Residents & Students

Students, Residents and Fellows, and Young Physicians

The Future of Medicine

A rapidly evolving health care marketplace, economic environment, shifting demographics and emerging health information and treatment technologies demand constant adaptation by physicians. The enactment of federal health care reform will bring additional changes that will impact every physician in California. It also presents unique opportunities and potential perils to consider as physicians and other stakeholders reshape the health care delivery system.

In these times, more than ever, CMA recognizes the significance of the Future of Medicine – those medical students, residents and fellows, and young physicians who will lead the practice of medicine. See below for contacts and resources for each career phase.

Medical Students

Medical students are often called “the conscience of medicine” and often provide fresh approaches to solving the issues facing physicians today. Click on Resources to learn more about California medical schools, volunteer opportunities, medical school tips and applying for residency.

Residents and Fellows

Physicians-in-training face specific challenges and opportunities of their own. This introductory period to the practice of medicine is a critical time. Click on Resources to learn more about California residency programs, residency tips and information on starting your career.

Young Physicians

Physicians age 40 and under, and in their first eight years of practice, also often have special concerns. Click on Resources to learn more about practice and career tips and resources.
